Building Better Together
The Foundation will direct all fundraising for 2021 and 2022 towards the Building Better Together campaign. Our goal is to raise $1.5 million to support the creation of a new 12-bed, in-patient mental health unit at Whitehorse General Hospital.
Our current 6-bed space is no longer adequate to meet the needs of patients. The Hospital Foundation will focus on adding common spaces for patients to meet with visitors, eat a meal, and stretch their legs in a safe, comfortable, and culturally appropriate space.
We hope to reach our goal by winter 2023 when the space will open for treatment.
“The impacts of residential schools and the COVID-19 pandemic add to the strain and stress of everyday life, and ultimately to the need for improved capacity and quality of our mental health care facilities,” says Mel Johnson, Yukon Hospital Foundation Co-Chair. “That’s why our newest campaign is committed to ensuring the best possiblemental health care is available to all Yukoners.”
Extraordinary Together: A Campaign for our Littlest Yukoners
Pregnancy and birth are exciting times in the lives of women, their families, and communities. When a pregnancy or birth becomes complicated the team at WGH is ready to care for you. This year the Foundation is supporting their critical work by improving your health care team’s ability to deliver care for sick babies close to home.
Our plan is to create a new space on the Maternity ward where sick infants can receive life-saving care next to their mothers. The room will be equipped with the technology needed to stabilize and support sick babies and will be large enough to allow moms to receive their medical care next to their baby. We believe that babies do best close to the ones who love them and providers do best when able to keep their patients at the centre of what they do.
